Hi Reader, I always wanted to own a real-life shop that I could invite folks into. It would have art on the walls (like literally painted on the walls), cozy nooks to curl up in for a chat or to read a book, gluten-free pastries (the good ones, not the ones like bricks), the smell of coffee wafting… I’d sell books, crafts from women around the world, hippie-looking clothes…basically all the things I like to surround myself with. 😉 If I’d done that, I’m sure I’d have gone out of business during the pandemic. That would have been sad. And it would also have been sad that, if I was running a shop for the past 20 years, I wouldn’t have supported hundreds of families as a doula or trained thousands of doulas. Fortunately, I get to have the best of both worlds. I still train doulas AND now I have an online shop. Check it out. Today is my open house. Come on in! Everything in my shop is 25% off until noon tomorrow! (excludes print books and coaching programs) Use coupon code openhouse25. Head on over there now!
What I'm listening to, reading, and watching: Someday at Christmas — I’m not a big Christmas fan, but this song always gets me in the heart. Sing it, Stevie! This and other articles about the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brian Thompson; the people’s response to martial law being (briefly) declared in South Korea; the toppling of President Assad in Syria…It seems like a groundswell of uprisings, or is it just me? The Dinner — I’ve always loved single-event movies where the entire movie spans just a few hours in the life of the characters. The Dinner is just that: a tense, multi-hour dinner with two brothers who don’t get along, their agenda-driven wives, and the secret of what their shithead teenage sons did. What are you listening to, reading, or watching that you think I’d like? Reply and let me know. Let me know if there's anything special you'd like to hear about in the coming weeks. Just reply and I'm on it! Thanks for reading, Carrie So You Want to Be a Doula |

Hi Reader, I’m writing to you under the pull of a full moon, watching the last of these short days limp into winter, with the familiar yearning to do as close to nothing as possible. This is the time of year for hibernation, stillness, and reflection. Three of my favorite activities. Yet, I rarely take the time to honor the season and energy of composting. Well, this year, I am. I’m taking off all of next week until the new year to sleep, read, stay in my PJs, walk in the woods, and eat...
