Hi Reader,

What does it feel like when you’re not doing what you’re supposed to be doing? Not as in, “I’m supposed to be watering the garden so I feel guilty sitting here drinking this 🍸.” Or, “I’m supposed to shave my legs but damn if I’ll conform to patriarchal beauty standards.” 😡

​

I mean: What does it feel like when you’re not doing what you came to this life to do? What your spirit is calling you to do? That kind of “supposed to.”

​

For me, it felt like chains around my heart. I couldn’t breathe past my shoulders. I was afraid to move. I couldn’t expand. It hurt to breathe into my heart.
​

So I went to the ER.

​

After an EKG, x-rays, and numerous blood tests, I was told my heart and lungs were fine and I could go home.

​

I didn’t have a diagnosis, but I had a damn good metaphor for how I keep myself small.

​

The next day, my chest felt as if I’d been sobbing for a long time. 💔
​

So I turned to my favorite medicine—meditating in nature—and asked myself what part of me is crying inside? What is this experience trying to tell me? What am I not seeing?

​

​

I’d been trying to narrow the focus of my business for the past 6 months. Was I going to focus on doula training/ business coaching, copywriting and marketing, or book editing and coaching? All the business gurus say you have to narrow down your niche. Make your mark in one area.
​

But that’s not me. I’m a multi-faceted person. Being a great copywriter makes me a better marketer which helps me with business coaching which informs how to write a good book. It’s all connected and I don’t want to pull anything apart.

​

And just as I’m equally interested in all those things, I’ve also invested a lot of time and money in each of them. So I can learn and grow and share.

​

Not sharing what I know and love is like chains around my heart. ​
​

So I’ve made a big decision. I’m not going to limit myself to one thing. I’m going to break the rules (no surprise to those of you who know me well).

​

I’m going full-steam ahead with two of my interests— doula training/business coaching AND book writing coaching—and adding a third interest that is at the root of everything I do...
​

I’m bringing back my Sacred Feminine Retreat.
​

Ever since I was a little girl, having the power of my divine feminine recognized and respected was missing (of course I didn’t use those words when I was 8!). The core essence of who I was wasn’t valued. I spent most of my adult life contorting myself around a pack of lies I’d been told about what it is to be a woman.
​

Becoming a doula helped me unpack the damage, unbury my divine feminine, and take back my power. The Sacred Doula Training at Breitenbush Hot Springs in 2006 was my first dedication to the sacred feminine.

​

Then I dove deeper with the Sacred Feminine Retreat in 2008 to raise awareness of our innate wisdom and power, and to provide tools to elevate the divine feminine in our life and work. And not just for women. Every living thing has divine feminine and divine masculine energies (along with a whole bunch of archetypal energies we can explore) and it’s a disservice to all when we are out of balance.
